Healthy Shift Workers at Risk for Diabetes and Obesity

A new study from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston reveals that sleep disruptions even in healthy people can cause weight gain and diabetes. Findings showed that when circadian rhythms are interrupted in otherwise healthy shift workers, blood sugar levels rise to pre-diabetic levels and metabolism drops by as much as 8%, causing weight gain of up to twelve pounds per year.
