How Bacteria Could Be The Key To Unlocking Diabetes

Whether you’re talking type 1 or type 2, understanding diabetes starts with looking at the body’s beta cells. They are neutralized from doing their job (transforming glucose into energy) in type 1 and type 2, and while they both stop functioning for different reasons, it is becoming more and more likely that repairing and protecting them is likely the key to finding a cure to diabetes.

And there could be hope!

Scientists in Europe have found a bacteria that may be able to work with blood cells to properly manage the bodies processing of sugars. While the way in which researchers are currently studying the cells may be contentious, it is deeply fascinating to see how a better understanding of beta cells could be the key to understanding diabetes to the fullest. And, of course, having a greater understanding of diabetes is essential to finding a solution.
