How to Stay Healthy Throughout the Holidays

The holiday season is finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited! Hot cocoa… Christmas lights… “It’s a Wonderful Life”… what’s not to love!? However, while managing diabetes is always difficult, the holidays bring with them a few obstacles that can make management even harder. For starters, most people find the availability of treats to increase drastically. And even if you manage to avoid keeping them around the house, the moment you get to work, it’s common to find yourself bombarded with delicious snacks that your thoughtful co-workers have brought in for the office to share. Plus, there’s the holiday meal. You’ve successfully navigated your way through Thanksgiving dinner, only to be faced with another delicious feast.

Then there’s the stress. As fun and exciting as the holidays are, they’re also jam packed with running errands, decorating your home, and spending time with family and friends. You might even be hosting some of these occasions, which means even more work for you. All of that stress is likely to leave just about anyone in search of some delicious comfort food and allowing themselves a little extra indulgence. And, to an extent, that’s just fine!

In the video below, WxII reporter, Margaret Johnson interviews Kathi Sigler, a dietician at the Diabetes Center at Forsyth Medical Center. Sigler offers viewers some tips and tricks for staying healthy throughout the holidays, without denying yourself all your favorite goodies!
