These Huge Statues Will Break Your Heart!

Star-crossed lovers have fascinated story-tellers for centuries. Tales such as Romeo & Juliet have appeared in countless adaptations, each taking on a different interpretation of the tragic but beautiful love story of two people in love who are doomed to fail. Now you can watch this story in statue form.

Georgian artist Tamar Kvesitadze created the “Statue of Love” in which two figures, a man and a woman, move toward each other and merge into one piece every 10 minutes. The artist was inspired by the story “Ali and Nino,” in which an Azerbaijani youth falls in love with a Georgian princess but dies defending his country.

The statues weigh seven tons and are made of steel. Currently they are on display on the Black Sea coast of Georgia. Watch the video to see them in action!
