Shaq Vs. Diabetes

By 2050, it’s estimated that one in every 3 Americans will have diabetes. That’s a shocking statistic!

And it diabetes doesn’t care who you are or what you do. While there are factors that contribute to risk, such as age, ethnicity, family history, weight and lifestyle (if we’re talking about type 2), it can also affect anyone. It doesn’t care if you’re rich… famous… or even one of the most famous athletes in the world.

Just ask Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq recently opened up to CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta about his fears of a type 2 diagnosis. Because the statistics about the epidemic are so alarming, the basketball player knows how important it is to be aware of the risks, and do what you can to adjust your lifestyle to be as healthy as possible.

As an individual who struggled to maintain his weight (by NBA standards) during the season, he discusses some of his tips for staying healthy. He mentions the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, and getting out of the house and staying active!

Take a look at Shaq’s take on the rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Don’t forget to let us know what you think in the comments below!
