We’ve chosen 4 basic categories to focus on within the realm of diabetes apps: Healthy Eating and Weight Loss, Apps that Sync with Diabetes Devices, Numbers Tracking/Logbooks Apps, and our favorite category, Free! We found 11 apps that we think are worthy of your attention. Apps are all designed for both types 1 and 2 unless otherwise noted.

This is not an exhaustive list, but it does cover the most popular diabetes apps currently available. We hope these recommendations give you a great starting point!

Healthy Eating and Weight Loss

1. Fooducate

Fooducate is great if you want a weight-loss coach in your pocket. It’s food focused and has a grading system that helps you evaluate the pros and cons of food choices and hopefully choose the smarter options. It monitors things that affect when, why, and what you eat. There’s also an online community available through the app that can field questions.

Does it Sync? No. This app is designed to be an encapsulated food coach/weight loss system.

Is it expensive? Nope! The app is free, but of course there are in-app purchases available that can provide additional guidelines for those with food allergies.
