What US State Has the Highest Diabetes Rates? Find Out!L.D.
There are a lot of factors that can determine a person’s likelihood of developing diabetes. For instance, family history, age, are all believed to contribute to an individual’s potential risk. However, there are also environmental factors to consider. And the more information we gather about what those environmental factors are, the better we can understand diabetes, and hopefully prevent it.
For this reason, it’s important to look at demographics. Who gets diabetes? Are there trends that can be seen across the country?
For example, which state do you think has the highest prevalence of diabetes?
I was surprised to learn the answer is Hawaii.
But why? Why are more people in Hawaii being diagnosed with diabetes than in any other state?
In the video below, we get a look at a 16 year long study conducted by the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine. In it, researchers examined the causes of diabetes, and potential intervention programs. To learn more about this exciting study, take a look at the video.
