We’ve all heard a lot about the type 2 diabetes epidemic. While there are a variety of risk factors that lead to an individual developing type 2 diabetes– such as family history, race, and age, being overweight or obese can also play a role.
And as our nations’ waistlines have grown, so has the portion of individuals who suffer from type 2 diabetes.
It’s estimated that more than 29 million Americans have diabetes. That’s a shocking 9.3% of the population. The majority of those people have type 2 diabetes, and many have not yet been diagnosed.
Doctors, and people in the medical field, including diabetes educators like Sharon Tilbe (shown in the video below), are doing their part to combat this condition, making sure individuals understand the risks associated with being overweight or obese.
